Pregnancy/Parental Leave

California has many laws that provide job protection to new moms and dads. It is illegal to harass or take any adverse action against an employee because of pregnancy. It is also illegal to discriminate or retaliate against an employee because they request or take a job-protected leave of absence.

A job-protected leave of absence is one which an employer is required by law to return an employee to their same (or comparable) position when they return from that leave.

 

Some of the leave laws that may apply to new parents in California include the:

California also provides partial wage replacement to new parents who take time off work to bond with their baby through the Paid Family Leave program.

 

California also requires employers to provide lactation accommodations to employees who desire to express breastmilk for their infant child.
